This is the last week to place orders with your comics retailer for Hector Plasm: Totentanz before they put in their Previews order for October (in fact, orders may be due tomorrow), so write, call or visit your LCS to let them know you want a copy! HOWEVER This is not to say that they can't still order it after this; they should be able to do an order increase any time up until the week before the book ships and still get the book the day it comes out. If you haven't asked for one by now, you still have time, but don't wait! And DEFINITELY don't assume you'll be able to just waltz in and pick one up off the shelf! In fact, you should assume the opposite. ASK your local retailer for a copy if you want one! It takes about thirty seconds to place an order on Diamond's website. Less. Make sure you ask for one if you want one! Your retailer can look up and order the book by name, but it is also available with the Diamond order code AUG090299. In the meantime, here is an interview with Benito on ComicMonsters.com. I don't know why it struck me as funny to post this after seeing Benito, Nate and Jacon post it (obviously it makes sense for them to advertise). So yeah, I doubt there's anyone watching me that doesn't also watch those three as well, but maybe you could try asking for Champion when you pre-order HP:T (although I thought the cutoff was on the 15th). It's order code AUG09 0634 8) | | Friday, November 28th, 2008 | | 2:07 pm |

YOU can appear in MY comic Hey everybody, I’m auctioning off the chance to make an appearance in my upcoming comic, CHAMPION. I’m putting all of my resources into making this book, so any help would be greatly appreciated (as well, I’d like to think that appearing in an actual comic would be really cool for a comic fan!) Please visit the auction at http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110314384493 and help me get the word out by linking this in your blogs and even forwarding it to all of your friends (whether they’re comic fans or not, they might know someone who’d like it as a gift or something) Thanks a million~Randy | | Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008 | | 10:26 am |

pumped!! Okay, so I'm super excited about projects I have on the go right now.
I've wrapped up the five page submission inks for Bullet and picked up Paul Little for colours. He absolutely blew me away with the sample he did ( http://zepsloan.deviantart.com/art/Bullet-98916502 ) and accidentally came up with the colour scheme for Bullet's costume (for over a year, I've had blue&white in my head and all through inking Nate's work it was blue blue blue and then Paul sent me that and it was like, "yeah, Bullet's costume is totally not blue!" haha) So once he wraps up colours, I'll throw the lettering on there and ship it off to Image. I don't want to get my hopes up, but I definitely have higher expectations for this one than Champion. And speaking of Champion, I got the last of the hi-res pencils yesterday and it's time to print off all my bluelines. Unfortunately, my printer seems to have died :\ Crappy thing is that it's a super awesome Epson 1280 that cost me a fortune and would apparently cost almost as much to fix, so I'm in kind of a tough situation. At this point, I'm almost considering opening it up and playing around with the guts to see if I can find a loose connection or something (the warrenty's expired anyways!) But once I get rolling on Champion pages, I'll be super excited to see them coloured by Lizz ( http://trinitycross.deviantart.com/ ). Her painted style is so unique and I think it'll really make Champion stand out. I'm so glad Arcana took her on for the project :D | | Wednesday, August 20th, 2008 | | 12:06 pm |
Real life...and comics! So yeah, here's a little update: I've given notice at my job (partly because it's been coming for a while, but mostly because some promises were broken regarding reducing my days at work so that I could get some comic stuff done...it's bad enough that my boss makes promises he can't keep to customers, but I can't take it myself...really no hard feelings, but it underlined why I had to end my time there) Now I'm at a scary point in life where I don't totally know what I'm going to do. Part of me wants to get into graphic design type stuff and I will be taking a class on Indesign to test the waters. I also just got back from a PDP Info Session at a university that's WAY closer to the one I went to and a much faster commute than what I've been doing to get to work. Teaching might be fun and was my back up plan all through school in case comics didn't work out (and why would they have, I haven't really tried!) So for the next little while, after I wrap up my time in the woodshop, I'll be in school one night a week and getting Champion and Bullet taken care of. Some time in October, I'll hopefully be volunteering at a highschool to really test the waters in a teaching environment maybe by then hear back from the community centre regarding a class on comic creating that I've proposed. Hopefully everything will be on course in time to start making babies ;) So that's that...I'm on my third page inking the Bullet submission and Champion pencils are coming in regularly, so I should be able to jump into that once this package is done.
And because maybe one or two people who read my journal won't know about this, Benito and Nate have put together another Hector Plasm book that I'm sure will be awesome, so check that out!!!

...
hey, whatever happened to devin? i know he changed his username at some point, but i've looked through a few people's friends pages and he's nowhere to be found...and he used to post like three times a day no penciljack either did he get a life? or is he just on a permanent sleepover and john's place? anyways, my life is hectic lately...working extra hours (and extra days...stupid one day weekend :P ) as well as trying to make the house spotless before vera returns from china, get a page inked and all sorts of stuff to do argh...at least i'm glad the overtime is coming when i'm here alone anyways...makes no difference if i come home late to nobody :P | | Thursday, November 18th, 2004 | | 1:20 pm |
so last week i was contacted by a guy who wanted me to ink a few pages to help out the inker on their book because he was running into scheduling problems the work, as it often is, was for free, but that's cool, it's not like i'm getting paid for the practice inks i do anyways...they stressed that i should get started right away, but the only thing i had to work from were the low-res files posted on their site ( http://ud.ath.cx/Fred/6Chance_Full/Chimaera%20Studios%20-%20ChanceFull.htm ) i chose that splash page (18) and got to work, finishing half of it before being sent the hi-res stuff...he wanted me to start over, but i figured i'd just reference the big file and go with it (it's for free, right? i'm not going to scrap so much of my time already put in).... www.captainsoftheworld.com/art/archives/p age18.jpg i DID finish it, but he wasn't too fond of some "details lost" (due to the low res? i think it was mainly he wanted finer feathering) and asked that i redo the whole page....no problem, i agreed to make changes or redo it *after* the rest of the pages were done, so at least there'd be *something* if time ran out [a side note, i can't believe how different the face ended up! that was totally my bad and i would never intentionally change a face so much!! :O ] so whatever, i moved on to (a high res copy of) page 17, taking into account his requests for finer feathering with the little dots after them (he suggested i take a look at his other inker, president of eon comic boards, brett...who, in my opinion, is TERRIBLE at feathering with those dots {check out the american's leg on the cover!!!}, but whatever, i figured i'd stick with that style, just try to do it "properly" in my mind) www.captainsoftheworld.com/art/archives/p age17.jpg he ended up liking the feathering, but claimed brett and my styles were too different and it just wasn't going to work and they continued their search for another inker :( when pressed for a real critique, it became apparent that i took too many liberties spotting blacks on the tanks ...oh well, it was a cool experience over all, and i learned the lesson to communicate the kinds of problems i see in the page before "fixing them"... he wanted a tracer, i gave him embellishing...life goes on, but at least there are two more pages for my portfolio ;) | | Monday, November 1st, 2004 | | 12:50 pm |
halloween
for those who haven't seen it, my "dad" halloween costume looked a little something like this: www.captainsoftheworld.com/art/archives/d ad.jpg | | Tuesday, October 19th, 2004 | | 12:29 pm |
i've decided it would be pretty funny to go as my dad for halloween, so i'm hoping i can grow a half decent mustache in two weeks :{P heh i had a really awesome weekend, a mixture of productivity (inking and housework), relaxation, and quality time with vera...for the first time in weeks i didn't feel totally drained coming back to work on monday morning (it also helps that the boss is back and it's a *little* less stressful around here) | | Friday, October 8th, 2004 | | 8:58 am |
helping out a friend...
okay, so my friend hosts this radio show every friday afternoon at 11 am - 1 pm PST on a site called http://akaradio.com there's a contest running where the host with the most computers viewing their show at any given time will win a cash prize it's today (and also the next two fridays, i think), so i figured i'd plug it for him...maybe you'll even enjoy listening to the show (but hopefully nobody else's ;) ) | | Thursday, September 16th, 2004 | | 5:11 pm |
still not friday...
man, what a week so far... i've come to realise that livejournals are often used to complain, so i guess it's a good place to vent some steam...especially regarding the people who work under me alex/george (refered to as both, even though he introduced himself to me as alex, my boss and coworker call him george...his spanish name is jorge alexandro or whatever, so that's where they come from, but it would be nice if he'd just pick one and tell people to call him that) doesn't speak much english...this makes it hard to teach him how to make window stuff because i can't communicate...i was quite happy monday when he said he'd be taking some night classes to learn english...yay, that'll be great, happy happy happy later in the afternoon, he messed things up enough to make me stay past 7 that night (not that i mind working ten hour days, but it cuts my free time in the evening down significantly)...blah mid week, i'm actually ahead of schedule on some projects, but it turns out a customer called back and changed the sizes of the windows he ordered, forcing me to re-do what i had done :P i hope my boss charged him for doing that work twice today i discovered that some stuff the boss' son had done quite a while back was done wrong...to the extent that the top of the window sash was a quarter inch wider than the bottom to most people, i'd imagine that they'd realise something was wrong, especially had they been using a square in the corners...argh...now since it's been sitting around WRONG since around the time i was in chicago, i've got to drop everything i'm doing and fix his mistakes (there were others, that was just the worst of it) ASAP because the customer was going to pick it up TODAY being the super guy that i am, i managed to pull it off...and still manage to get a lot of my work done...rather unfortunate that it takes an other's stupidity to bring out the best in me, but i guess i've always shined under pressure (that explains why i always had to leave even *starting* my papers until the last night before it was due) blah, so that stuff sucks, but the worst part is that my boss is ragging on me because i should be catching all these mistakes...seriously? is it really so wrong of me to assume that his son would have the common sense to notice a strangely warped window? (honestly, yes, because the kid's a retard, right? but come on! i've got a TON of things to do myself and i end up holding his hand through EVERYTHING except the really easy things...like taking a tape measure and marking off 23 1/2 inches...how on earth was one of them 23 1/4????) and am i really expected to teach someone ENGLISH as i'm trying to teach him how to sand something? argh...whatever, did anyone actually read through that? my life's not all bad...vera's hooked on tetris, and i beat her high score by accident heh ...last weekend i went to a local comic convention and met graeme (mr. downtown)...he's a cool guy and now i finally see that his signiture isn't just circled as i originallyl thought, that's a "G" haha...i'll try to get the couple pictures we took up at some point...also at the con, matthew clark (superman and inhumans artist) gave me a SUPER good critique! like really focussing on HOW i can imrpove certain things (i guess the other artists can appreciate that more than the other crit i got there, from cary nord, "wow, looks pretty good...i'm not an inker and can't really give you any pointers unless i saw your work over my pencils, but your stuff looks nice" (good thing i didn't bring in that ghost rider page of his i inked *shudder*) but yeah, that's about it...i've got the internet up at home now, but haven't had a chance to really get things set up, so it's still just a few minutes after work that i can get online...whatever, i hope everyone's doing well! later | | Tuesday, September 7th, 2004 | | 8:53 am |
dreams?
i had some pretty crazy dreams last night...between ones of my sister getting married (riding her horse during some of the ceremony, next to another girl on a pony) in france and something to do with one of my old high school buddies, i had this weird one where girls were killing each other with shotguns i have no idea what the plot was, just random snipets of scenes...one was set in a short order kitchen kinda thing (maybe it was a girl's school cafeteriaf or whatever)...anyways, i guess there were two girls in the kitchen, blocked in there and the rest of the girls were the crazy ones...they had shotguns and were shooting into the kitchen area (poorly though, they couldn't really do more than stick the gun in and hope they hit)...the two "sane" girls also had shotguns and were shooting back, but they were losing badly, hit a few times, etc so the one turned to the other and put her out of her misery before offing herself the crazy ones were chanting something like "now we hold the power, not just dolls and pretty flowers" (i think that was it, i woke up trying to add more, i think...but that's pretty creepy on its own) so yeah, i'm crazy, i guess :P | | Thursday, August 19th, 2004 | | 5:22 pm |
well, i've got about 4 minutes beforei have to leave to catch the bus...i hate not having a computer (that works) at home so i can actually go online for a bit...stupid internet quickies after work :P anyhoo, i wish i could post how much fun i had in chicago, thanks to everyone who i met/hung out with, it was a million times better than last year (which was really great in the first place) i regret two things though, not bringing painkillers and not getting more sketches (mike, it will be scanned eventually, maybe around the time matty gets *last year's* convention adventure up though :P ) there was a bit of downtime after the con, but the past two days i've been thinking about it A LOT...my love for comics is stronger than ever, but stupid life/work gets in the way of my just reading/drawing all day :P oh well | | Friday, August 6th, 2004 | | 1:15 pm |
chicago, here i come!
for some reason, i thought that my flight left in the afternoon, but apparently i'm going to be up at like 4 in the morning thursday, because the departure time is SIX THIRTY AM!!! oh god...at least those tickets were like a hundred bucks cheaper than anything else i saw...but man! and i arrive 12 30 chicago time (i think that's how it works), so what am i going to do until PJers start arriving? when DOES everyone get into chi-town? | | Wednesday, July 28th, 2004 | | 5:33 pm |
an update?
i had a good day at work today...lately i've been feeling rather unproductive, but this week has been good, especially today vera's been complaining about how boring it is when she doesn't do anything at work...which sucks because she actually doesn't have anything to do but hang out on the computer, so what's to complain about? when i complain, it's because i'm supposed to have made a ton of windows and ended up doing very little for one reason or another it's been different lately though, i'm "in the zone" or something, and it feels damn good...i also felt pretty damn good about the last page i inked, so i should get back to doing some work!!! speaking of comicy stuff, i'm getting SO pumped about chicago! i even had a dream the other night that i was there hanging out with chris and giving jacob a bunch of old marvel universe trading cards that featured venom heh...cory made it too, and he was nice to me heh anyhoo, did anybody get the hellboy dvd? i picked it up, but only managed to watch those 'hellboy recommends' bits...mcboing boing? weird i also listened to a couple minutes of the creator commentary because i wanted to hear what mignola sounded like...very pleasant voice ;D that's it, i'm heading home...until next time! | | Tuesday, July 6th, 2004 | | 8:56 am |
did everyone have a good free comic book day on saturday? mine rocked!!! vera and i went comicshop hopping to maximize our free comics...virgin records even had it going on, with an exclusive big tokyo-pop anthology thingie that vera was pretty excited about :D it was pretty cool to see several books that feature creators i know given out across north america... haven't posted in ages, but what else is new? :P my hockey season finishes off with an impressive record for our team: 0-15-0 hahah, booyah! well, we're gauranteed one playoff game, so maybe we could pull off a HUGE upset but yeah, i'm at work now, so i've gotta jet | | Thursday, June 17th, 2004 | | 8:50 am |
in the past, sometimes when i've been grocery shopping, i wondered what the cashier thinks about my random purchases (can't think of anything off the top of my head, but i do remember times i thought, "man, what must they think i was making for dinner" heh) the other day i went to the superstore with vera and i'm curious to know what the girl was thinking when we put down a couple boxes of condoms, a thing of lube, a bunch of sport drinks......and a pair of tube socks i don't know, that kinda made me laugh thinking about it | | Wednesday, May 19th, 2004 | | 5:07 pm |
punch in, punch out. go to work and go back home.
roller hockey, lost all the games so far, but we're seeing improvement...getting back into inking (an hour or two a night for the past several nights, quite a bit for me for a while!)...making porn with vera's new digital camera 0:) ...she's really enjoying the walking dead trade that i picked up...wondering if a groups PM (re: sleeping arrangements for chicago, if anyone has space for another body...matty? nate? paul on the floor? heh) from penciljack worked because nobody replied...the couple emails i sent out that same day weren't replied to either :S ...slacking at work for some reason, just can't seem to work quickly...need a break, but weekends are full of hockey, so i've had no time to recharge in soooo long....should really break this rare update up a little, but can't be bothered to everyone (anyone?) who reads this, i hope everything's good and maybe someday soon i'll even chat with you (doubtful?)... |
